As Autumn is on the way and the nights draw in we got to thinking of some of the players who have played for the Cobblers over the years and thought would start with Tommy Fowler.
Tommy started his career with the blue half of Liverpool, Everton. He made his debut playing alongside the greats that were Joe Mercer and Tommy Lawton and he scored on his debut in a 9-0 win over Bury.
He served his country during World War 2 in France where he was wounded by a sniper. He was sent to recover from his wounds at Bedford where he met Northampton coach Jack Jennings. Jack invited him to join Northampton which he did and as they say, the rest is history.
He settled in the Town and played for the club for sixteen years. He tops the club's appearance chart with 585 games. He scored 84 goals. His last two playing seasons were spent with Aldershot Town. He passed away in May 2009.
Born Prescot, Lancashire December 16 1924.
Died Northampton May 3 2009.
