The Wiltshire men are challenging for a play-off place in their first season under the management of the fiery Italian but saw a long unbeaten run ended at Torquay on Boxing Day.
"We have dropped a little bit but we have a young group here," said Di Canio, quoted in the Gazette & Herald.
"Over the last few games we have recognised a few situations and tried to change things but we need extra quality.
"We didn't start the game well today. At the end of the day we have a young side and we need more communication between the players."
Aidy Boothroyd meanwhile feels a repeat of his side's Boxing Day display, despite defeat at the hands of Burton Albion, will stand them in good stead.
"If we perform like that from now until the end of the season then we will beat a lot of teams."
