Both sides gained crucial points at the weekend in their fight against relegation from League Two with 10-man Northampton drawing at promotion-chasing Scunthorpe while the Grecians equalised late on at home to Dagenham & Redbridge.
"The conditions were probably at their most difficult of the season – this is always our toughest time of year when the mud starts to turn firm," said Exeter boss Paul Tisdale.
“I thought we played terrific considering. The players really gave everything and were tough today."
Those respective results left Exeter six points above Northampton in the table but having played a game more. They were 2-1 winners at Sixfields in September when John O'Flynn netted a stoppage-time winner.
