With a five point gap between Barnet in 18th and AFC Wimbledon above them it is beginning to look like any two from seven to make the dreaded drop out of the Football League.
Northampton's own hopes suffered a setback with Saturday's defeat at the hands of Port Vale and they must now take a watching brief with all of their rivals in action.
Four of those teams face each other as Plymouth Argyle travel to Macclesfield and Barnet host Bradford.
Elsewhere Dagenham & Redbridge are away at Morecambe and Hereford go to Gillingham.
Aidy Boothroyd meanwhile made no excuses for the Port Vale reverse which came on the back of successive home wins for the Cobblers.
"I think we got what we deserved," he told BBC Radio Northampton.
"You can't play any fixture in any league and only start playing with 15 minutes to go.
"I though that from the start they played at League Two match pace and we played at testimonial pace.
"We knew how to deal with them but we didn't stick to the game-plan. We were powder-puff too often and when you're like that you don't win."
