Crosby has been placed in temporary charge after Ian Sampson's sacking on Wednesday but Cardoza does not see the former Sunderland boss as the answer at Sixfields.
Cardoza said: "Malcolm will steady the ship for the time being but I don't see him as a permanent appointment - though you never know. If he wins three or four games in a row that could change but I doubt it.
"The players haven't performed consistently and are partly responsible but I believe they are good enough to get into the play-offs and hopefully the new manager will get the best out of them.
"When you are thinking about making a change the first thing you look for is the attitude of the players. You can tell when the manager has lost it but that certainly wasn't the case with Ian. He's a decent guy who is going to be a good manager but it wasn't working out for him here."
