After sounding the warning signal over a possible relegation battle as the Cobblers slid down the League Two table late last year, Chris Wilder is in much better spirits now following the 3-0 victory over Newport County on Saturday which pushed his side closer to the play-offs than the drop zone.
“For 35 minutes in the first half we were outstanding," he said.
"We created chances, drove the game forward and I think that’s the best football we’ve played in a long time."
Among a number of pleasing aspects to the game for Wilder was that the three goals came from midfield and defence with the resurgent John Joe O’Toole netting for the second game in succession.
O’Toole, Ryan Cresswell and Lawson D’Ath have now contributed nine league goals between them and for the Cobblers to win 3-0 without Marc Richards getting on the scoresheet is an impressive feat.
An away game at Accrington Stanley next Saturday is all that stands between Town and an unbeaten month.
