As with most of the big names, Northampton’s only league contact with the Reds of Liverpool came in the Cobblers’ first and only season in the top-flight.
Two meetings in that 1965/66 campaign produced a goalless draw at the County Ground followed by a 5-0 reverse at Anfield.
Town, however, pulled off one of the biggest cup shocks in the history of both clubs when they defeated Roy Hodgson’s side on penalties in the 2010/11 League Cup.
