Macclesfield recorded their first home win of the season as Northampton were consigned to a 2-0 defeat.
Matty Hamshaw marked his return to the side by setting up both goals with pinpoint corners. The first after 24 minutes was converted by Algerian midfielder Hamza Bencherif with a neat cushioned half volley. Hamshaw was again the architect after 70 minutes when centre-back Nat Brown met his deep corner with a powerful downward header for his third goal of the season.
Resurgent Macclesfield, who have now taken seven points from their last three games, created all the chances with striker Tyrone Barnett heading inches wide in the 10th minute and Ross Draper putting a volley past the same upright moments later.
The speedy Emile Sinclair had an appeal for a penalty waved away in the 24th minute as Northampton could muster little but a blast over the bar from Ryan Gilligan. The Silkmen also controlled the second half, with Bencherif and Barnett going close before Brown sealed the points.
