After beating Ipswich Town on Tuesday night Northampton will play Premier League opposition in the 2nd round of the League Cup.
Wolverhampton Wanderers will come to Sixfields on Tuesday 23rd August for a 7:45pm kick-off.
Speaking to the Chronicle & Echo, boss Gary Johnson said that the win at Portman Road sets the standards for his team.
“I watched the tape of Tuesday night’s game and I was very pleased with the performance.
“It was a bit slow at the start but as soon as we got our goal the confidence seemed to grow and we played some really good football.
“They’ve seen what I’m after and once they’ve seen it they can aspire to it in the next game and that’s what we’ve got to try to do in the league games now.”
Former striker Leon McKenzie meanwhile has signed a deal with Kettering Town.
