Northampton missed out on the chance to sign Tom Elliott following the Leeds striker's decision to join League Two rivals Rotherham on loan.
Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore had to act quickly to secure the services of Elliott from under the noses of the Cobblers.
Elliott will remain at the Don Valley Stadium until January 3 and Moore told his club's official website: "We were fortunate to get him.
"There is no doubt that there aren't that many strikers about and to be honest he was on his way to Northampton but we were lucky that we spoke to his agent and he has decided to come to us."
