After falling behind to a 55th minute penalty Ian Sampson will have been happy to see his side equalise almost straight away through Leon McKenzie and then keep the hosts at bay despite Abdul Osman's red card.
The result keeps Northampton nine points behind their hosts, who occupy the final play-off place at present.
They now face two home games in the space of a few days against sides below them in the table as Morecambe and then Aldershot come to Sixfields.
Sampson, speaking to the official club website at http://www.ntfc.co.uk after the game, felt that Osman's tackle had been a good one but declared himself happy with a point in the circumstances.
