Chairman David Cardoza revealed earlier this week that the Cobblers have lodged a cash bid with a fellow League Two club for a striker - which would be the first incoming transfer to involve a fee at Sixfields in over four years.
Sampson said: "We have made a cash bid for a striker but we are still waiting to hear back from the club.
"We've been trying to get a forward in for quite some time and to make a cash bid is welcome news for everyone.
"We've got one or two other targets lined up but we're not going to move on anyone else at the moment."
