Leeds were 3 - 0 up before Town struck back.
Jermaine Beckford (13 mins), Mark Hughes o.g. (28 mins) and Ben Parker (41 mins) gave Leeds control of the game. Town looked to have given themselves a lifeline before half time when Jason Crowe scored in the 44th minute. Beckford though had the last laugh of the first half with his 2nd goal and Leeds' 4th to make it 1 - 4 at the break.
Any hope of a comeback were shattered in the 55th minute when Beckford completed his hat trick.
Town did end the game on a brightish note when Crowe got his and Northampton's 2nd.
The game ended 2 - 5 with Leeds going on to face Histon in round 2 and the windfall of another live TV game.
