The Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza says that boss Gary Johnson will have the budget next season to build a "promotion-winning" team. The Cobblers, who lie 20th in League Two, have secured their Football League status after a bad start to the season.
"There are a lot of players out of contract so there will be an awful lot of money there," Cardoza explained to BBC Radio Northampton. "He will be able to build a promotion winning team, we think." Cardoza added: "He's not going to have money thrown at him - there's no need.
"Gary's been there and done it at a number of places and in a number of different divisions."
The Cobblers are away to Morecambe in League Two on Saturday for their final match of the season, but the highest position they can climb to is 16th.
"It's been a bitter disappointment. We draw a line under it and move on because it was that poor.
"I can't quite put my finger on why it all went wrong but it did. We won at Anfield (in the Carling Cup) and it went downhill from there," Cardoza said.
