Speaking after a busy week of off-field news at Sixfields, Cardoza told the local press he was delighted to finally do a deal with the local council which will see the Cobblers'' stadium substantially renovated and improved.
With an ambitious manager firmly in place and now similarly ambitious plans for Sixfields there is no reason why Town cannot aim to become a firm fixture at Championship level.
The old hierarchy of Engish football remains to some degree but smaller, well-run clubs can take advantage of the financial meltdown that has afflicted those ''bigger'' teams who have not come to grips with the new reality.
One only has to look at the club who may well be sharing Sixfields next season, Coventry City, to see that they may be swapping places with Northampton in the near future.
