Cardoza - who still has an offer on the table for Burton striker Shaun Harrad - has had a five-figure fee accepted for a 21-year-old centre-forward who made his name in non-League football.
He told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "I'm reasonably confident we'll be able to sort something out.
"We're quite excited about him, we think he's going to be a player we can develop and we think he's got a chance of being a very, very good player.
"He's 21 years old and he's one that hopefully will grow and evolve with the club.
"We were alerted to him a couple of years back when he was in non-League and we've always kept an eye on him. We have enquired about him on a number of occasions and it's always been a case of trying to get him on loan. This time we're talking about getting him permanently and if we can do that then it will be very exciting."
