Lee's prospects of becoming Gary Johnson's permanent successor took a mauling in the first 45 minutes of his time in charge as the Shrews raced into a three-goal lead.
"We were 3-0 down before we started to play a bit in the second half," said Lee. "But it's easy to play when you're 3-0 down, you need to players to be at it when it's 0-0.
"The players need to have a long hard look at themselves. They let themselves down but they don't become bad footballers overnight. It was poor decision-making and some bad defending.
"Now it's up to me or whoever comes in to pick the players up for next week."
