Hopeful that his side's upturn in fortunes will not be derailed by the FA Cup defeat at Grimsby, Boothroyd and the Cobblers face six games between 14 December and 4 January, four of them away from home.
Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton: "There's been an upturn and we've got to keep that going in a massive month.
"It could be a season-defining month. Away results need to be much better."
Northampton can go above Bury with a win at Gigg Lane but the Shakers will be keen to impress their new manager as David Flitcroft takes charge for the first time.
The former Bury player told BBC Radio Manchester: "With the squad we have got here, we've got to mould that in the next four games into something that is competitive and get some points on the board."
