Caretaker manager Andy King praised his side's second half performance at Portsmouth on Sunday as the Cobblers gained another crucial point from a goalless draw.
King will know that a win against league leaders Chesterfield could lead to a permanent elevation to the hotseat but is battling against an injury crisis which saw a makeshift team take the field at Fratton Park.
Chairman David Cardoza told the club's official website on Monday that, while the search for a new manager is 'narrowing', King will be allowed to make additions when the transfer window opens.
And, as a former striker himself, King will be trying every possible means of boosting Town's meagre goals tally which is in danger of dragging them into the Conference.
Chesterfield were held at home by Dagenham & Redbridge on Sunday but assistant manager Leam Richardson was not too downhearted afterwards as the hosts played much of the game with only ten men.
