The game at Sixfields pitted the bottom side in League Two against the high-flying Cod Army but Northampton defied the odds with a gritty performance in which they enjoyed the majority of the few chances that were carved out.
And, in contrast to so many occasions this season, it was the Cobblers who enjoyed the fortune of a last-gasp goal to leave their opponents deflated.
"From start to finish our work ethic and willingness to get ourselves out of the position we are in was excellent," Boothroyd told the official NTFC website.
“We pressed for the whole game and as I’ve just said to the players we’ve just beaten the team that is top of the league so there are no excuses now."
