Having inherited what many felt was an unwieldy squad from Gary Johnson, Aidy Boothroyd wasted no time in trimming some fat by allowing Ashley Westwood, Chris Arthur and Bas Savage to leave ahead of the end of their short-term deals.
"Every player is on trial, and every player has to show me, the fans, and everybody connected with the club that, one, they want to be here and, two, they are willing to go the extra mile to be in the team," Boothroyd told the Northampton Chronicle.
"It's too early for me to be saying 'he's going to be here' and 'he's not going to be here' but there are three who have already left the club so I won't be slow in making decisions.
"However, at the same time I'll make sure I'll give everybody the opportunity to be part of the future here at Northampton. But I'm not a charity, I'll pick teams that I think can win games as we've got to get points."
