The new man could hardly have had a worse start as Jamie Cureton was gifted a first minute goal but Wilder was encouraged by the way his side clawed their way back into the game, Matty Blair's 76th minute goal earning a vital point in the fight against relegation.
"We will get better in terms of our quality but with the attitude and commitment that the players showed we've definitely got something to work with," Wilder told the club's official website.
Alan Connell from the start and Leon McSweeney and Emile Sinclair from the bench all made their debuts for Town taking the number of players used in league games this season to 36.
Wilder's appointment and this week's signings may be the final throw of the dice but for the final 19 games of the season there should at least be some stability at Sixfields in a bid to haul back the six points that still separate Northampton from safety.
