The official NTFC website confirmed on Tuesday that Friday will see the project get underway with a proposed enlargement of the Cobblers stadium together with retail, residential and and conference facility use.

David Cardoza, Chairman of Northampton Town said, "This is a momentous day for Northampton Town Football Club.

“We are so grateful to David Mackintosh and Northampton Borough Council for their support, without which we wouldn’t be in this position. They have been fantastic in helping to deliver a facility of which the town will be truly proud.”

With one of the aims of the new development being to help Town 'move up the football ladder' it is slightly ironic that it comes as the club continue their fight against relegation out of the Football League.

The prospects of that fight being won have improved markedly since Chris Wilder's arrival at the club and he takes his side to Exeter City on Tuesday night aiming to close the gap still further on a nervous chasing pack.
