Gillingham, beaten at Sixfields recently, have landed Swindon Town left-back Callum Kennedy on an initial one-month deal as manager Andy Hessenthaler tries desperately to improve his side's fortunes.
Saturday's FA Cup reverse against Dover saw Hessenthaler threaten his entire squad with being placed on the transfer list.
"There is a virus at this club and we have to get rid of it somehow. If that means putting everyone on the transfer list then so be it," he said.
"Let's see how many teams come in for our players. I bet there aren't many."
Veteran midfielder Paul Wotton meanwhile has left Southampton for Oxford United, whose only win in their last six games was at home to the Cobblers.
"Paul is an experienced lad with a great attitude," said manager Chris Wilder.
"He is a leader and wants to come here and do well with Oxford United.
"His record speaks for itself and for the last couple of weeks we have been looking for exactly his type of experience and will to win. I am delighted that he is coming in on loan."
