Gary Speed left Bramall Lane this week to become the new manager of Wales, leaving an attractive-looking vacancy despite the South Yorkshire club's lowly league position in the Championship.
Sheffield-born Micky Adams, currently flying high in League Two with Port Vale, has been strongly linked with the post although his number two Geoff Horsfield, himself an ex-United player, told The Sentinel: "Micky gets on with the job and, as he's so professional, he won't get unsettled.
"He is 100 per cent committed to Vale."
Another one-time Blades striker meanwhile is also being touted as Speed's successor. Paul Peschisolido is currently cutting his managerial teeth at Burton Albion.
"It's very flattering. I had a great time at Sheffield United," he said.
"I had a good rapport with the fans and know the club but I haven't heard anything. I am just concentrating on playing Accrington on Saturday."
