Another Positive Week for NTFC as Duo Sign

In the current football climate where relatively short contracts see a lot of player turnover, especially in the lower leagues, the deal for Hackett represents continuity for the Cobblers and adds to the positive news following the captures of Zander Diamond and Marc Richards in the first two weeks of the close season.

Ivan Toney, meanwhile, has extended and improved his contract. The deal was offered to the 18-year-old academy product in the wake of the impact he made at the end of the season when three goals in two games went a long way towards keeping the Cobblers in the Football League.

"Everyone saw the impact Ivan made at the end of the season and we were keen to tie him down to a longer deal," said manager Chris Wilder. "We are the excited about the progress he as an individual and we as a club could make in the next three years."

One man not staying with the club is defender Mathias Kouo-Doumbe who has not been offered a new contract.

Wilder has more reasons to be cheerful as his former club (and the one he supports) Sheffield United are coming to Sixfields for a pre-season friendly on Tuesday 22 July at 7.45pm. Town will also take on Alloa Athletic on Thursday 17 July at the Scottish club's Recreation Park ground.

***Update*** Gregor Robertson has also agreed a new one-year contract with the Cobblers.
